As everything changes with time, new fashions come in and things that used to be considered standard are not performed anymore, you can avail of the opportunity to introduce your own modifications or exceptions to rules. Who’s to say it’s only men who are allowed to give speeches and propose toasts at your wedding? Want to have a go?
If you’re striving to be a modern bride and feel more than comfortable in front of crowds, you have every right to make your own speech. As there are no formal rules on what a bride’s speech should contain, you can pretty much put anything you want in it.
If you have no major ideas, but still want to go ahead with it, the safest way to go would be to follow the groom’s speech. You can thank his parents in turn for welcoming you into their family as well as tell your own parents how grateful you are to them for bringing you up and devoting so much time to you.
What you can also do is slightly alter the way everyone perceives your husband and instead of just leaving them with the best man’s view in mind, you can tell your own story. Reminiscing how the two of you met and how happy you are to be marrying him today will definitely put smiles on everyone’s faces, leaving the widest one on your groom. Also, if your husband thanked for the presents, your job could be mentioning everyone who couldn’t make it to the wedding.
If you find it a good idea, you can also ask one of your bridesmaids to make a speech. After all, why can your husband have his best man singing praises about him and you have to sit quietly and admire? You deserve a few words of adoration from your best friend as well. Remember not to have too many people making speeches though as you might find most of your guests fainting from hunger waiting for the speeches to end.
